I was introduced to a language learning website called Live Mocha. Its basically a Facebook for language learning minus the stupid, annoying, and downright ridiculous stuff you might find on Facebook, such as Mafia and Farmville (seriously?). You tell it what languages you know, how well you know them, and then what languages you want to learn. It then will match you up with like-minded people who can help you (and you in turn help them) through the language learning process. I thought I’d give it a shot. I love learning languages, but it is something at which my brain has to work very hard. I need all the help I can get.
I know English, obviously. Either that or I have a Bable Fish in my ear and I only think I know English. I want to learn Spanish, Nepali, and French. I know Spanish pretty well, Nepali still needs a lot of work, but I’ve never learned any French. So I thought I’d test out the site with some French.
I started off learning basic nouns such as man and woman, then some adjectives like tall and fat. There is a corresponding picture with each one in case you get confused. Then I came across this lady…
I personally would never call this person fat, nor grosse for that matter. But somehow I felt very sorry for this person, put on display so that I might learn the French word for ‘fat’. I hope she was paid well. Or should I say, I hope she got a grosse paycheck?

Thanks, Paul. This is pretty cool. Jen and I have been talking about purchasing “Rosetta Stone” to learn other languages. She speaks Arabic, Italian, and English, …. and I sort of speak English. Let me know how it works out for you.
