I went to the reception tonight for the wedding I talked about yesterday. It was just down the street at Yak Banquets. It was a cool night, the stars were out (with the power outages you can see a lot of the stars even in the city, its strange to be honest). Women were dressed in their saris and the men wearing their topis. The music was playing as the guests greeted the bride and groom. The bride, to be honest, looked like a deer in the headlights. The whole time I never saw her speak a word. She would only bow to those who greeted here and the groom did all the talking. I don’t know if that was just her personality or the culture, but I have a feeling it was more of the culture.
I enjoy these gatherings because all you have to do is sit in your chair and they bring around the drinks and food. There is someone offering you food about twice a minute. Paneer, fried fish, fried cheese balls (delicious), spring rolls (also delicious), coke, and fanta and more. We stayed for an hour or so, but at 8 the electricity came back on at our house, so we rushed back home to enjoy it. Sometimes you can actually hear people cheer when the power comes on. And more often you can hear groans when it goes off.

Where I've Been

I am loving reading your posts. And it is more the culture that causes the bride to be all shy. However, it also depends on the personality because I have seen grooms more shy than the outgoing bride. But traditionally its the bride who is shy and is not in the most joyful mood because she’s ‘leaving’ her family for another!
